Edward R. Vandervoort Memorial Award
Other awards

The Edward R. Vandervoort Memorial Award has been awarded annually by the Club since 1953 to someone who is neither a current MSU athlete nor current MSU coach; has done much to advance the status of athletic teams representing schools/colleges within his/her surrounding community; and exemplifies community encouragement for the finest things in an athletic endeavor. The award is named in honor of the late Edward Vandervoort of Lansing who contributed so many fine services to athletics in the Greater Lansing area.

The 2017 recipient of the Edward R. Vandervoort Memorial Award is Jerry G. Sutton, JD.
Jerry has been involved in athletics all his life. He is a Lansing native and graduate of J. W. Sexton High School where he was a participant on two state championship basketball teams (1960 & 1961). Jerry was also on the MSU baseball team from 1962 to 1964. He is a member of the MSU Alumni Association, past-president of the Bullpen Club (MSU baseball's booster club) and past-president of the Varsity "S" Club at MSU. He has been involved in the lives of young people and athletics for over 50 years, coaching 4th- and 5th-grade girls basketball teams. He has played on the Lansing City League baseball team and in the minor league with the Chicago White Sox. He supports the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing in their youth baseball programs. Jerry and his wife Linda are strong supporters of both men's and women's athletics at MSU including football, basketball, wrestling, rowing, soccer, hockey, volleyball and baseball. In 2003, Jerry and Linda jointly received T. M. Cooley Law School's Distinguished Alumni Service Award. Jerry is a member of the inaugural T. M. Cooley Law School. In 2005, Jerry received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from MSU and from the MSU baseball program.
Congratulations Jerry!
